WHM Joins SE 2050 Commitment to Net Zero
Sustainably-sourced mass timber is key to embodied carbon reduction.
WHM is proud to announce that the firm has joined the SE 2050 Commitment Program, pledging to significantly reduce and eliminate embodied carbon in structural systems by year 2050.
“We believe that incorporating sustainable strategies at a structural level contributes to a lighter ecological footprint overall and allows us to affect change at a base level. We understand that, as members of the engineering community, it is our duty to build safe, sustainable, and efficient structures for our community,” stated Brian Maver, Principal, LEED AP.
Leading the charge, a team of inspired engineers calling themselves The Decarbonators, was formed. They will intensify the company’s pursuit of sustainability by developing strategies and facilitating education and the sharing of knowledge with staff and external partners.
“The SE 2050 Commitment Program is being developed in response to the SE 2050 Challenge which states:
All structural engineers shall understand, reduce, and ultimately eliminate embodied carbon in their projects by 2050.”
