East Sooke Residence
This seemingly modest home near Victoria, BC is a testament to efficient and ambitious engineering. The soaring laminated veneer lumber beams and concrete slabs cantilevering over a rock ledge open the home to phenomenal cliffside views while the random angled shapes of the house allow internal spaces to fit the property’s topography and two inner courtyards let sunlight brighten up the home. The sea breeze off the Pacific Ocean and the extensive view through the large windows give a distinct sense of being one with the outdoors.
This home won the 2018 Residential Wood Design Awards with Wood WORKS! BC, and received the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia Award in Architecture – Medal with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC).
