MONTAUK SOFA

The Montauk Sofa store is in a 100-year-old building in Gastown, Vancouver that received a retrofit and seismic upgrade. Large sections of the upper floor were removed to open up the space and structural steel and heavy timber were incorporated. The steel and heavy timber offer a contrast to the existing exposed brick walls and also creates a modern feel while maintaining the beauty of the brick walls. The brick walls needed some extensive retrofit work to preserve them, as the mortar was degrading or nonexistent. Also added to this project were a series of “sliver” skylights in order to allow more natural light into the space.
