South Surrey’s Recreation Centre is a focal point in Surrey and is a significant example of the Canadian sense of community. This new exciting expansion integrates a new Fitness and Arts Space that will provide the community with a high level of access to many community programs and events. This 20,000 square foot expansion will incorporate a new weight and fitness room, a multipurpose room, classrooms, and innovative offices as well as rooms dedicated to arts programming and child minding. This project also incorporates the Wood First Policy.

Our structural team developed the building to maximize the new facilities space while also maintaining the building’s distinctive character and identity. We used a combination of heavy timber, steel, and concrete to create a warm and inviting centre that will cater to the needs of the South Surrey community for decades to come.

This project was featured in the July issue of Canadian Architect and on July 23, 2014 in Arch Daily. This project was also recognized by the 2014 Fraser Valley Commercial Building Awards where it won an Award of Merit in the Community Recreational category. Surrey’s NewCity Design committee recognized the South Surrey Recreation Centre with the “Best Interior” and “Best Renovation & Adaptive Reuse” awards.
